FAQ – Phat Kisslock Pouch Workshop
1.Do I need to bring anything to the workshop?
All materials are provided. You will have a selection of fabrics to choose from including the matching candy ball metal frame.
For the sewing tools, students need to bring their own tools as under Sing Mui Heng’s policy (as we are using their studio). This is to minimise sharing of tools during this Covid-19 situation. Your understanding is appreciated as every student’s co-operation means we are keeping ourselves & our families safe.
Sewing machines & irons are provided in class and are sanitised before and after classes.
Tools to bring to class-
- Fabric scissors
- Hand needle with a standard size eye plus a needle with a larger eye that can fit a thicker thread such as a jeans thread. Bring along a few as back up.
- 20 or more small wonder clips.
- Sewing pins.
- 15cm ruler
2. What fabric choices do I have?
There will be a more than 10 fabric combinations for you to choose from before the workshop. I will message you the selection. The fabric combinations are limited & sometimes only one set left. This is so that I can provide my students more variety as opposed to having everyone sew up the same fabric. The lining of the pouch will be a standard fabric for every student & will be determined by the instructor.
3. Do you provide the pattern?
The pattern for the particular frame used will be provided.
4. What is the size of the finished kisslock pouch?
The pouch is approx. 11cm wide, 11 cm tall ( including the clasp) and has a depth of 7 cm.
5. Will the fabrics be pre-cut?
The external fabrics will NOT be pre-cut . The lining fabric will be pre-cut. Some of the batting and interfacing we will be using will be pre-cut, the rest will be cut by the students. The beauty of this design is to highlight the main fabric and the secondary complimentary or contrasting fabric allows the primary fabric to be the focus. So what is important is to “fussy cut” a desirable section of the fabric and this will take time and be done by the students. Many find this an enjoyable part of this class.
6. Do I need experience with making a pouch with a sew-in frame?
You don’t need prior experience with sew-in frames but you will need to have basic sewing machine experience. You will need to know how to use an electrical sewing machine confidently and to sew straight lines confidently. There will be a significant amount of time spent hand stitching. For clarification, please contact me via my FB.com/honeycombavenue by direct message or email me at hello@honeycombavenue.com.
7. Does it really take a few hours to complete this project?
Yes, it does take a few hours to complete as there is hand stitched basting and hand stitching of the frame which can be time consuming but vital in the process of making this project. The curves are small and the item is small, hence a few hours will be required. Duration will be dependant on the student’s sewing experience and their comfort level with hand stitching.
