It’s generally hard to please teenagers, right? I can imagine a few of you nodding away. So, it’s even harder to SEW something for a teenager. Well, it’s easy to sew something for a teenager but will they want anything to do with it, that’s another question! Recently, I have been experimenting with different Onigiri fillings and yes, my trials in the kitchen have been successful as the kids are happy to pack them as a school snack. I had a cute printed fabric of “flying sushi” laying around, waiting to be used for the perfect project and you guessed it. Voila! An Onigiri pouch! Tell me it isn’t kawaii!
First, I traced the around the perimeter of the onigiri container with some allowance for the two side container clips. Then I decided the zipper should run more than the length of the 2 sides, so it would be easy to open and take out the container. The depth of the container would give me the width of the zipper panel. A little bit of math application and drafting and I had my pattern. I decided to use bias tape to cover the inner raw seams as it would be give an added structure to the triangle shape of the pouch . Here is the result!
